The mixed game portion of Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa’s Big Big Series wrapped up with Pennsylvania’s Jeffrey Gibson topping a 48-entry field across nine different game variants. Gibson defeated Michael Falk heads-up to secure his second Borgata trophy and a first-place prize of $56,170.
The victory also stands as Gibson’s largest career score outside of No-Limit Hold’em, according to tournament records dating back two decades. He cited Stud Eight or Better as his favorite discipline, calling it the game he knows best.
Gibson entered the final stretch of play close behind both Falk and Ryan Moriarty, with all three eventually reaching the final three spots. He described the four-handed stage as wide open, feeling that any player could have taken the title at that point.
A key swing came during a 2-7 Single Draw hand when Falk’s pat nine defeated Gibson’s pat ten, helping push Falk into a commanding chip lead. Falk extended his advantage further by eliminating Moriarty in third place, entering heads-up play with more than a 3:1 chip edge over Gibson.
The heads-up battle saw the lead change hands repeatedly before Stud Eight or Better became the deciding round. Gibson surged to a 6:1 lead and ultimately closed out the match during that same round, sending Falk home in second place for $34,500.
Gibson noted he began learning mixed games as a child but only started competing in them regularly over the past year and a half, calling them an enjoyable break from Hold’em. This marks his second Borgata title, following a win in last summer’s B.E.A.S.T. mix event.
