Canadian player “MrYoungShark” claimed the title in 888poker’s $109 Mystery Bounty Main Event on September 14, defeating a field of 683 entrants to earn $15,371 including bounty payouts. The turnout marked one of the weakest showings for the tournament since 888poker lowered its guarantee from $100,000 to $80,000.
The event’s modest numbers come just ahead of the 888poker XL Autumn Series, which launches on September 20 with 41 numbered tournaments. More than half of those events will feature a Mystery Bounty format, hinting at potential overlay opportunities for fans of the structure.
“MrYoungShark” entered the eight-player final table as the clear chip leader, holding 2,951,018 chips, or 74 big blinds, more than double the stack of runner-up “PokerStrive.”
The remaining seats were tightly packed, with “kojgysto888” sitting third in chips at 29 big blinds and “BigFish20” seventh with 25, while New Zealand’s “3pokeronly” started shortest with 13 big blinds.
“BigFish20” busted in eighth for $907, the only min-cash of the final table, followed by Romania’s “sugarrush2” ($1,107) and Ukraine’s “Dimiasikk888” ($1,903) in the early stages. New Zealand’s “3pokeronly” fell in fifth for $1,637, while “PokerStrive” and Denmark’s “kojgysto888” collected $3,172 and $3,680 for fourth and third, respectively.
In the heads-up battle, “MrYoungShark,” who had already banked more than $8,000 in bounties, defeated Lithuania’s “MantynisNA” to secure the title, with the runner-up taking home $6,027.
