The Victorian Poker Championship is only one week old, yet it has already produced plenty of headline moments, none bigger than Joe Hachem returning to winning ways.
After falling short in the festival’s opening Celebrity Event, the 2005 WSOP Main Event champion rebounded to win Event #9: A$1,250 Limit Omaha Hi-Lo, defeating Chi Troung heads-up in a 48-player field for A$16,000.
The final table also included Australian poker personality Billy “The Croc” Argyros, adding star power to the late stages of the tournament.
This marks only the seventh tournament victory of Hachem’s long career, and he continues to hold third place on the Australian All-Time Money List, trailing only Kahle Burns and Michael Addamo.
Elsewhere on the schedule, Chenyang Huang enjoyed a standout week, winning both the 383-entry Opening Event and the $600 Terminator for a combined haul exceeding A$100,000. Meanwhile, Sean Ragozzini, who finished 11th in the 2021 WSOP Main Event, captured the $1,250 Van Marcus Special for $28,125.
Attention now turns to two of the festival’s marquee buy-in events, the $5,000 High Roller Challenge and the $10,000 Super High Roller, both of which are offering cashback incentives for players who register and take their seats early.
