Season 2 of Hellmuth’s Home Game, presented by Poker Night in America and sponsored by BetRivers, continues airing on CBS Sports on Monday nights. Filmed at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada, the show forgoes commentary in favor of unscripted table talk led by Phil Hellmuth and a rotating cast of pros and friends.
Episode 2 was played at $25/$50 blinds with a $50 big blind ante and featured several notable pots. In the opening hand, a preflop cooler saw 24kGolden’s pocket nines run into Hellmuth’s queens after a three-bet war. The two ran it twice, and Hellmuth’s queens held both times to scoop the double-up.
24kGolden later rebounded in a hand against Steven Jones Jr. and DJ Washburn, flopping top two pair with 10-9 and check-raising all in after Jones bet the turn with a flush draw. The river blanked for Jones, allowing 24kGolden to double his stack to $7,175.
The biggest pot of the episode belonged to Dan “Jungleman” Cates, who flopped a gutshot straight flush draw against Ethan “Rampage” Yau’s two pair. Cates check-raised the flop, bet the turn, and fired again on the river after completing his straight flush, forcing a lengthy tank from Rampage before he made the call and lost a $36,725 pot.
Hellmuth was also involved in a three-way pot with top pair of aces, but a cautious line allowed 24kGolden to extract value and win with Broadway.
Cates later found himself on the losing end when Jones rivered a runner-runner flush to beat his straight, taking down a $17,275 pot as Cates admitted his river bet was a mistake.
